The property was originally owned by the Town to protect the pond’s water quality; it was formerly used as the drinking water source for Georges Mills.Read more

Lennon

Mark Lennon, purchased a house and 26.46 acres on Pumpkin Hill Road in 1990 and it was always in his thoughts to conserve the land. Read his thoughts on conservation in his article, which appeared in the 2015 summer issue of the Chatter. Mark spent years clearing fields and thinning an overgrowth of pines from his forests. On September 18, 2015, Mark successfully placed an easement on the property with Ausbon Sargent.Read more

Levine/Vail

The 9.6-acre Levine/Vail easement was donated to Ausbon Sargent in December of 2007 by the LEJ Revocable Trust. The property is in close proximity to the 710-acre Hay Wildlife and Forestry Management Area and the 165-acre John Hay National Wildlife Refuge. It was once part of the Hay Estate. The main goal behind the preservation of this property was to protect the water quality of Lake Sunapee, therefore, public access is not guaranteed.Read more

Maple Leaf Natural Area/Town of Sutton

A conservation easement on 65.36 acres was granted by the Kezar Conservation Group LLC on January 11, 2010. This group then sold the property to the Town of Sutton to be managed by their Conservation Commission. The property is now known as the Maple Leaf Natural Area. Bordering 227 feet of frontage along Kings Hill Road, this easement protects primarily forest. Because the property is visible from Lyon Brook and Hominy Pot Road, this part of the view of the southeast face of King Hill will continue to stay rural and undeveloped.Read more

McCandlish and Sillars (Kisakanari Woodlot)

Ausbon Sargent is pleased to announce the protection of 145 acres of land in Salisbury, NH. The McLaughlin Property is primarily forested and undeveloped. Its proximity to Vermetti Pond and its habitat for nesting herons, adds to the already high habitat rankings it has earned for being home to deer, moose, turkey, woodland birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. The property contains important forestry soils, and its agricultural soils are listed as "Farmland of Local Importance" in the State of New Hampshire.Read more

Ausbon Sargent staff celebrate the purchase of the Messer Farm

Messer Farm

When Ausbon Sargent was presented with the opportunity to purchase and protect the Messer Farm property along Little Sunapee Road in New London, the fundraising began. There was an outpouring of support from the community. There was even support from those who had moved away but whose recollections of the farm and the fields held a special place within their hearts.  The property was purchased by the Land Trust on October 30, 2020.Read more

Messer Farm Expansion

On April 15, 2021, Ausbon Sargent purchased a 9.4-acre property which abuts the recently-purchased Messer Farm property in New London. This additional acreage will provide great access to the Messer Farm and Forest area.

Messer Pond/Town of New London

Ausbon Sargent holds the conservation easement on 46.95 acres on the north east edge of Messer Pond and County Road. This land belongs to the Town of New London, whose citizens voted to place permanent protection on this town owned property at the March 2010 town meeting. With 1,360 feet of road frontage on County Road, the land is primarily forested, but also contains wetlands that have herbaceous vegetation. This property is open to the public with 510 feet of frontage on Messer Pond - providing watershed protection to Messer Pond whose waters eventually flow into Clark Pond.Read more

New England Forestry Foundation

The New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) permanently protected 130 acres located on the northwesterly side of Little Lake Sunapee with road frontage (1,628 feet) on Little Sunapee Road and both sides of Burnt Hill Road. NEFF owns and manages the property. The Little Sunapee Associates made a contribution to this project that allowed the Ausbon Sargent to cover administrative and legal costs.Read more

New England Forestry Foundation-Spaulding

Whit and Polly Spaulding worked with Ausbon Sargent and the New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) to protect 2.8 acres of their land, which abuts the 130 acres of Little Sunapee Memorial Forest. NEFF owns and manages the property. The addition of this property provides much needed access to that portion of the south of the brook that runs from Little Lake Sunapee to Goose Hole. The land will remain forested to continue to protect Little Lake Sunapee's watershed quality.Read more
