Brown Family's Frazier Brook Farm

Dating back to the 1800’s, four contiguous pieces of land near Mason Hill and Brown Roads in Warner had been owned by members of the Brown family.  After being bought and sold over time, the Browns finally assembled the properties once again and, in 2017, approached Ausbon Sargent to help them protect their 133.39-acre property.  Their wish was to make sure that the land stayed together as a working farm, forever.Read more

In 2001, Katharine Brown of Warner donated a conservation easement on her land along the Henniker town line, adjacent to the Ashenden State Forest. The easement, which encompasses a 7-acre "Homestead Area" including an 1809 historic single family farm house, will be protected from any further residential development and will be maintained in perpetuity as open space. The Town of Warner Conservation Commission holds an executory interest in this conservation easement.Read more

The children of Peg Dewey Carroll added to their mother's conservation legacy by permanently limiting development on their 22-acre inheritance between I-89 and Route 103A in New London. This parcel, with 850 feet of frontage on Route 103A at Herrick Cove, protects the Lake Sunapee watershed, maintains wildlife habitat and buffers traffic noise from I-89. The forestlands are a mixture of soft and hard wood forests are important to the water quality of the Lake Sunapee watershed by filtering water run-off from storms.Read more

Carroll/Keating and Carroll (Burpee Hill)

Peg Carroll along with Nancy and Kit Tatum worked together to preserve a spectacular view of Lake Sunapee and Mt. Sunapee from Burpee Hill Road, New London. Peg Carroll began to think about land protection after talking with her neighbor, Eunice Bohanon, who was the first landowner to donate a conservation easement to Ausbon Sargent. The Bohanon easement was also the catalyst for the Bessie Phillips and the Stanley Farm Association easements. 197.38 acres of land have been protected on the northwesterly end of Burpee Hill because of these five families donating conservation easements.Read more

Cassey Brook Preserve

On February 13, 2020, Ausbon Sargent accepted full ownership of the Cassey Brook Preserve on Wilmot Center Road in Wilmot. Of all the properties that Ausbon Sargent has assisted in protecting, the Cassey Brook Preserve represents the sixth property that is owned by the land trust.

Christopher Cummer Preserve

On December 22, 2020, Cheryl Cummer gifted a 24.5-acre parcel on Nichols Hill Road in Springfield to Ausbon Sargent. The property, named the “Christopher Cummer Preserve” is named after Cheryl’s brother, and is the third property Cheryl has been involved in protecting within the town of Springfield.Read more

Clark Lookout (Crook)

Clark Lookout emerges as a stunning surprise at the end of a graveled woods road lined by stonewalls and large, older hardwoods and giant white pines. As easement donor, Syd Crook himself describes the hike to the lookout, "You go up and up and then turn that last corner and –wow! There’s the view." Syd has named the viewpoint for his grandfather, James E. Clark, who discovered this special place when clearing and creating over 4.5 miles of carriage roads on his 110-acre estate between Herrick Cove, Route 11 and Route 103A as a hobby.Read more

Clark Pond/Town of New London

In July of 2009, The Town of New London protected 91.41 acres on the west end of Clark Pond with Ausbon Sargent agreeing to hold the easement. This journey to protect 1,188 feet of shoreline on Clark Pond began in 1975. Over the years, the New London Conservation Commission acquired three properties to make the Clark Pond property.Read more

Cleveland

In December of 2009, the Cleveland Family Trust donated a conservation easement on their 19.9 acres along Main Street in New London. This property is primarily an undeveloped hay field containing prime farmland soils with a small amount of forestland. The open hay field rises uphill to the east from a lovely stonewall and maple trees along the south end of Main Street. Traveling south, the field provides panoramic views of Mount Kearsarge.Read more

Cline

This 33.21 acre easement donated by Don and Lorraine Cline is an important link between two other Ausbon Sargent protected properties, the Broshek and Barclin conservation easements. The Clines have been very community-minded in working with their neighbors to double the acres of conserved land on the north side of Shaw Hill Road. They've made their land available to the public for walking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and nature observation. The property is primarily undeveloped forestland with frontage on Raccoon Hill Road.Read more

Cook/Town of New London

Cordingley Preserve

About 100 years ago William R. Cordingley and his family began a love affair with the area of SooNipi Park Lodge, so much so that in 1913 they bought the nearby Currier Farm renaming it the "Meadowlands." Part of the land so cherished by the family was the Putnam Parcel, a 13 acre tract located on the south side of SooNipi Park Road off Route 103A in New London and sloping down to King Hill Brook on the eastern shores of Lake Sunapee.Read more

Courser Phase 2 (Farm)

The Courser Farm conservation easement is just one part of the easements put in place by the Courser family and includes 138 acres of farmland, wetland and forestland out of a 276 acre parcel. The family protected the remaining acres under an easement called "Remainder Farm." The Courser Family Phase 2 project goal was to purchase the development rights on the 138 acres including all fields, wetlands and all Schoodac Road frontage from the Courser family. This easement allows for agriculture and forestry, but limits development and prevents subdivision of the land.Read more

Courser Phase 3

Ausbon Sargent partnered with The Nature Conservancy to complete Phase 3 of the Courser Project. The signing of three separate conservation easements in December of 2008 was completed with the four Courser siblings—adding another 440 acres to the previously protected 455 acres of Phase 1 and 2. Phase 4 was then completed in 2010, bringing the total project of 1,250 acres to a close.Read more

Courser Phase 4 (Trumbull Pond)

The 308 acre Trumbull Pond conservation easement, located on the southerly side of White Plains Road in Webster and a small section of Schoodac Road in Warner, completes the fourth phase of a total 1,203 acres protected in Warner and Webster by the Courser Family. The Trumbull Pond project was a partnership with Ausbon Sargent, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), The NH Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP), the Conservation License Plate (Moose Plate Program), the Open Space Institute’s (OSI), the North American Wetlands Conservation Act and other public and private donors.Read more

Cross

In 1997, landowners Priscilla Drake and Deborah Cross added another 6.6 acres next to the Main Street Meadow easement. A total of 12.2 acres on the southern end of Main Street will now remain as undeveloped, mowed meadowland - affording passersby beautiful views of King Ridge and the western hills.

The current owners, Deborah and Richard Cross, shall maintain the field for the panoramic view.Read more

Cheryl Cummer and Jack Lyle, long-time supporters of the North Florida Land Trust, have preserved their family homestead in Mandarin, Florida on the St. Johns River through a conservation easement. With this in their history and conservation on their mind, they decided to preserve their family land near Star Lake Farm in Springfield, NH. In 2014, they conserved their property with two conservation easements, each with their own excluded area with the home tied to the land. The Springfield property is a mix of field and forest located on both sides of Nichols Hill Road.Read more
