Messer Pond/Town of New London

County Road, New London

Ausbon Sargent holds the conservation easement on 46.95 acres on the north east edge of Messer Pond and County Road. This land belongs to the Town of New London, whose citizens voted to place permanent protection on this town owned property at the March 2010 town meeting. With 1,360 feet of road frontage on County Road, the land is primarily forested, but also contains wetlands that have herbaceous vegetation. This property is open to the public with 510 feet of frontage on Messer Pond - providing watershed protection to Messer Pond whose waters eventually flow into Clark Pond. The addition of this Messer Pond easement also adds to over 298 acres of conservation land nearby. [Note: The conserved property can be seen behind the island on the distant shoreline.]

The Messer Pond trail is maintained by the Town of New London Conservation Commission. It starts at the gate on County Road and follows and old cart path and woods trail. A map of the trail can be found here.
