On February 6, 2022 Ausbon Sargent held a winter farm and forest tour at the Messer Farm property in New London, NH. Informational stops throughout the trail provided participants with bits of information about the property. A photo scavenger hunt was included, which urged participants to look for certain types of trees, animal tracks, and farm features.
Spring Ledge Farm partnered with the land trust and provided hot apple cider, cheese and crackers and apples out on the trail, and warmed us all up at the farm stand with more hot cider, homemade apple cider donuts, and two delicious soups!
This event drew more than 100 participants who traversed with snowshoes or cross-country skis along the nicely-groomed trails (1.7 and 1.3 mile options), which were made possible by more helpers from Spring Ledge Farm, and several other friends of the land trust. The weather was perfect and the beauty of the property was highlighted by the sunny day. There were many happy faces to be seen!
This property is open to the public for low-impact recreation year-round. For those exploring during the growing season, please be mindful of the crops and equipment which will be present in the agricultural fields and are the property of Spring Ledge Farm.
